More Than Enough

A story is told of an elderly lady who had lived nearly all of her life in one small community. She never had much in the way of material things, but had learned contentment with her lot in life. However, she was rich in friends and they wanted to do something special for her while she still able to enjoy it. The only thing they had ever heard her wish for was about wanting to see the ocean before she died. All of her life she had read and heard about this large body of water, but had never had the opportunity to see it.

So her friends got together and decided to take this lady on an ocean cruise while her health permitted. When the day arrived and she stepped on the deck to view the seemingly endless sea of blue- - she began to cry. “Why are you crying?” her friends asked, “We thought this would make you happy!” “Oh, it’s not that I’m sad. It is just that, well… this is the only thing that I have ever seen that there is more than enough of,” she explained.

I really like this story. Making a discovery of something that “there is more than enough of” is pretty unusual! However, when it comes to spiritual things, it is not unusual at all. Here are a few examples:

1. There is more than enough love for everyone. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
2. There is more than enough hope for everyone. “Come unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
3.There is more than enough salvation for everyone. “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering to us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

On and on we could go, but these are sufficient to prove that “the Lord is rich to all who call upon Him” (Romans 10:12). There is no lack of anything that we really need! Thus, it is no wonder that when Christians stop to consider how great the blessings of God are we cannot help but be emotionally touched for all the things He gives us for which there is “more than enough!”
